March is National Reading Month. The month kicks off with National Read Across America Day, where children, teachers, parents/caregivers, and community members around the nation come together to read books and celebrate the joy of reading.

 We have  a lot of fun activities planned for reading month this year.    At the end of the month, if students turn in their reading month calendar and make their goal set by their classroom teacher, they will receive several different prizes donated from the Bismarck Larks. 

• 1st Base - BSC Bookmark 
• 2nd Base - Larks Pencil 
• 3rd Base - Larks Folder 

Homerun - 2 Tickets to a Larks Game. There is a QR code on each folder which can be scanned for the kids to redeem their tickets.

We also have dress-up days throughout the month!

• March 8th - Cuddle up under the stars with a good book (PJs and stuffed animal day)
• March 15th - GO GREEN for Earth (Wear GREEN for St. Patrick’s Day)
• March 22nd - Reading is the FUTURE! (Dress how you think people will dress in the future)
• March 29th- Reading to the Moon (Wear Liberty Rocket Gear)

Finally, we will be celebrating all our reading accomplishments by hosting BINGO for Books on March 31.

Camp Ed (summer school) ONLINE registration CLOSES on March 20th. 

Camp Edventure is a free six-week elementary summer school program focusing on reading and math. Children entering grades 1 through 5 in the fall and whose parents live in the Bismarck Public School District are eligible to attend. Camp Ed begins June 5th and goes through July 18th (no school on July 3rd and 4th). Classes will be in session each day from 8:00-12:00. 

Paper copies are available for pick-up in the office, but online registration is encouraged. 

To register online, simply Login to PowerSchool at https://bismarck.ps.state.nd.us If you don’t have a login, contact your building secretary to get started.

1. Once you’ve signed in, click on the “Forms” link on the left side.
2. Select the “Camp Edventure Registration Form,” fill it out with your student’s information, and submit.

Check out the Camp Ed parent letter sent home with your student for more information. 

Bismarck Public Schools is excited to host the 13th annual “Fruit and Veggie Week” March 6-10 at its elementary schools. BPS School Nurses developed this project to get your child excited about living a healthy lifestyle - not only in school but in everything they do.

• MONDAY, March 6th is WHITE/TAN/BROWN Day
• TUESDAY, March 7th is YELLOW/ORANGE Day
• WEDNESDAY, March 8th is RED Day
• THURSDAY, March 9th is PURPLE/BLUE/BLACK Day
• FRIDAY, March 10th is GREEN Day

Kids are encouraged to bring fruits and vegetables for their snack and to dress in the corresponding color. The fruit or vegetable can be fresh, dried, canned, or frozen.  As long as it’s 100% real fruit, it will count towards the classroom goal.  Each day, your student’s teacher will keep track of the number of students that brought a fruit or vegetable for their snack. (The snack does not have to be the ‘color of the day’ to be counted).  

To motivate students, the classroom in each school with the highest percentage of students who bring a fruit or vegetable as a snack will be given an extra recess and be recognized with the Apple Award!

It is our goal at Liberty to continuously improve and move towards our vision of “empowering every learner to thrive.”  We are seeking your feedback and opinion as to how we are preforming as a school.

It is important for our students to be dressed for the weather as recess is such a valuable time of the day for students.  Remember, all BPS elementary schools follow the policy that students will go outside for recess if the temperature/wind chill is above negative15°F.  We know the wind can blow very hard, creating very cold temps – we always take that factor into consideration and make sure we are making decisions to keep kids safe. Please be sure your child wears the appropriate clothing to school each day. Weather Policies

This school year we are unable to offer our Rise and Shine program due to a lack of staffing.  Because of this change and knowing the hardship it will take on several of our Liberty families, we will be changing arrival times. 

Students may arrive at school at 7:30. Supervision will be provided within the building from 7:30-8:00, then, starting at 8:00, students will be outside (weather permitting) for before school supervised recess.  Upon arrival, ALL students should enter through the front doors of the building.  Please remember, only supervisors are permitted on the playground and all visitors must check in at the office. 

School is dismissed at 3:05 and all students should depart immediately after school is dismissed. There is no supervision after school. To ensure the safety of all children, please make arrangements to have your child picked up promptly or know their specific after-school plan. Thank you for your cooperation.

If you are sending medication for your child to take at school, you must complete a Medication Administration Authorization form. This form is found on the Bismarck Public Schools website under Departments, Health Services, and then Medication on the left. We will also have these forms available in the office. All prescription and non-prescription medicine must arrive in its original container and be delivered to the  office by a parent/guardian. We will not accept any medication arriving in baggies, envelopes or other types of packaging.

USDA has ENDED the free meals waiver.  Students/families are responsible for purchasing meals by placing funds in your students' myPayments plus account.  Eligible families are still encouraged to apply for the Free and Reduced Meal Program. These applications greatly assist the district in receiving other federal funding, including Title I funding. 

Applications can be submitted in one of the following ways:

2. Drop it off at your child’s school (M-F, starting the 1st Monday in August) 
3. Drop it off at the Hughes Administration Building at 806 N Washington St. (office hours are M-F from 7:30 am-4 pm)
4. Mail to: BPS Child Nutrition Dept., 806 N. Washington Street, Bismarck, ND 58501.
